Work
Some of the organizations I have worked for / with include…
SUMO
Web Developer, April 2008 – Present
SUMO is a design agency based in Newcastle, specialising in the arts and cultural sector. During my time at SUMO I have worked with clients such as Essex County Council, York Museums Trust, Newcastle City Council and the BBC.
Projects were developed using Java, PHP and MySQL with JavaScript for enhanced functionality. Notable projects include CreateDemocracy, Explore Culture and Windows of Opportunity.
Newcastle City Council
Web Developer, June 2007 – March 2008
Newcastle City Council wanted a developer to work on a new web project called EYE (Exploring your Environment). The site would allow users to submit wild animal sightings to an interactive map, in order to track wildlife in the Tyne & Wear area. The finished project was built on an Apache Tomcat server with JSP and PostgreSQL for scripting and data storage.
Upon completion of the EYE project I moved on to become lead developer of the Tyne & Wear Museums site, which is a hub for 11 museums in the Tyne & Wear area. The site was built using PHP and MySQL and involved a combination of maintaining the sites existing modules and adding new functionality based on the councils requirements.
IGN Entertainment
Web Developer, June 2003 – May 2004
IGN is huge network of sites covering everything from books to cars, however, their main focus is video games, illustrated by their aquisition of Gamespy in 2004. As part of this take over I was brought in as the developer and administrator of PlanetRainbowSix, a site dedicated to all things Tom Clancy. My role required me to develop and maintain the site, which was built using classic ASP and MS Access, running on a Windows Server.
